Every seven minutes,

a child is bullied.

- It is estimated that 160,000 children miss school every day due to fear ot attack or intimidation by other students.

- Nearly 1 in 3 students (27.8%) report being bullied during the school year.

- 90% of 4th through 8th graders report being victims of bullying.

Bullying is an age-old problem.

Some consider it a childhood rite of passage.

But the results of bullying are complex and potentially have lifelong implications. Studies have found that students who are bullied are at increased risk for depression, anxiety, sleep difficulties, and problems in school. Conversely, students who bully others are at increased risk for substance use, academic problems, and violence either later in adolescence or during adulthood.

There is good news.

Research has shown that school-based bullying prevention programs like Just Say Whoa®to Bullying decrease bullying by up to 25%. Interestingly, students who experience bullying are more likely to find peer actions more helpful than educator or self-actions with 57% of bullying situations stopping when a peer intervenes on behalf of the student being bullied.
